What's New at River Continuum Concepts?

One Lane Bridge

One Lane Bridge!

Whoa Cowboy! Slow down!

It is my goal to provide information that is useful, maybe even thought provoking, to people interested in water quality and aquatic biology. I'll try to add some topics for discussion regularly. Please visit regularly.

Meanwhile, some current project might be worthy of discussion.

Fort Harrison Bug Survey - icon
Montana Army National Guard 2009 invertebrate species of conservation concern survey report.
This report summarizes a series of surveys to determine the status of seven invertebrate species of conservation concern on two Montana Army National Guard training areas in Montana. The surveys occurred over the summer and fall of 2009 and the draft report was submitted in Jan 2010. This report is currently 'IN REVIEW' by the Montana Army National Guard. Hams Fork River Assessment - icon
Hams Fork River Nutrient Assessment
The Hams Fork River, Lincoln Co., Wyoming, has some interesting water quality issues, that may stem from unusual, but natural, circumstances. The river's water sometimes cycles an alkaline pH greater than 9.0. This has been linked to diurnal cycles in the primary production of algae, so that it only seems to occur in summer afternoons. We analyzed the data collected by Lincoln County Conservation District and made recommendations for an improved study design to gather the data necessary to remove the stream from the state's list of impaired waters.
